SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who provides a variety of nursing services according to the bio-psycho-social needs of the users or groups of people under her/his care. She/he evaluates the health condition of users; determines and implements treatment and nursing care plans for users with complex health problems and/or problems that involve various biological, psychological and social aspects. She/he provides nursing and medical care and treatments aimed at maintaining and restoring health, and preventing disease.
She/he conceives implements and evaluates health care programs that require advanced knowledge and that are aimed at solving complex health problems and/or problems involving various biological, psychological and social aspects. This person is involved in the development or adaptation of clinical tools and health care quality evaluation tools. She/he coordinate teamwork and plays an advisory role for mental health clients within the interdisciplinary team.
She/he identifies, for the users, the needs and interventions that require the coordination of different services within the establishment and between different establishments or related organizations. If applicable, she/he ensures the coordination of these services.
She/he is responsible for the orientation of new mental health personnel and is involved in their training. She/he supervises teaching activities aimed at the users and their relatives, and at groups of people in specific program. She/he also collaborates in research projects.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS* Evaluates and assesses the mental health status of clients and determines their mental health service needs;* Collaborates with professionals, mental health liaison nurse, mental health workers and others to provide a case management approach to each individual client and meet his / her service needs;* Collaborates with the interdisciplinary teams to support the smooth integration of the clients in their natural environment;* Refers clients to the appropriate level of therapeutic intervention needed to meet their mental health needs. These interventions could be local supportive consultations, second-line consultations, or tertiary care inpatient interventions. To assist in this decision-making process, the nurse consults the referral resources that are available to the nurse. * Schedules a multi-disciplinary meeting on each psychiatrist visit; * Contribute to community prevention, promotion and awareness activities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and local partners to avoid working in silos.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Member in good standing of the O.I.I.Q;
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an undergraduate degree consisting of three (3) admissible certificates, of which two (2) are accredited certificates in Nursing;
Holder of the training Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or OMEGA or willingness to follow it.
*The following candidates will also be considered:College degree in Nursing with the following:
An acquired experience and successful completion of a trial/probation within the CBHSSJB in Mental Health, or
- A certificate in the field of mental health or psychiatry
Experience* Two (3) years of experience as a nurse including one (1) year of experience in mental health;
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Good theoretical knowledge related to mental health and current issues and trends, and quality assurance systems;
- Knowledge related to health and social services as well as mental health programs available in the region (if any);
- Knowledge of legal aspects regarding psychiatric clients (court orders, protective custody, implementation of Bill 39, etc.);
- Good knowledge of the MSSS network, regulations and programs related to nursing care;
- Knowledge/training on Code White policy and protocol regarding violent patients;
- Knowledge of, or ability to grasp the issues and context related to First Nation health issues;
- Knowledge of Cree culture, social/health issues and Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
- Ability to apply Eenou Eeyou traditional knowledge into programs and services;
- Excellent organizational abilities, critical thinking, synthesis, multi tasking and decision making skills;
- Possess strong leadership skills in working with individuals and groups.
LANGUAGE* Fluent in English;* Fluency in Cree or French is an asset.
OTHER* This position could include psycho-social on-call periods.* A skill-based test may be required.
