DESCRIPTION
Under the authority of the coordinator responsible for the regional occupational health program, the person advises the establishment on matters relating to nursing care and public health network in occupational health programs, and is entrusted in particular with the responsibilities of:

  • Design, implementation, evaluation and revision of programs to improve the quality of care and professional activities.
  • Design, dissemination, evaluation and revision of programs and/or services, training and updating of staff and trainees;

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
As part of his or her duties, the person participates in various activities and tasks related to the prevention and protection of occupational health. The person aims to promote, maintain and improve the health, safety, well-being and quality of life of workers. More specifically, he/she will be responsible for:

  • Contribute to the identification and management of occupational risk linked to various chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic and psychosocial contaminants and constraints.
  • Participate in the assessment and identification of risks to the health and safety of workers, where appropriate, collaborate in the drafting and development of occupational health (OHS) programs based on the risks identified.
  • Carry out epidemiological investigations and prevention and control interventions in the event of threats of notifiable diseases in the workplace.
  • Follow-up on recommendations made in the workplace following MADO investigations or reports.
  • Act as an expert advisor to employers, workers, health and safety committees (HSCs) and partners in relation to the various laws and regulations in force in the field of occupational health and safety.
  • Participate in issuing occupational health and safety recommendations (in the form of notices, communiqués, reports, etc.) with the aim of preventing health problems and/or protecting health, in collaboration with the medical staff.
  • Participate in the development of clinical tools to support public health activities or promote the transfer of occupational health and safety knowledge.
  • Collaborate in the development, implementation and evaluation of projects and activities related to priority occupational health issues, while respecting the partners' areas of expertise and responsibilities and soliciting their collaboration.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement and co-development activities associated with the work processes and files to which it contributes.
  • Collaborate in the production of medico-environmental reports for the various occupational health and safety programs
  • Provide leadership to mobilize and support partners in applying best practices and public health recommendations.
  • Support and collaborate with public health teams and network partners to maintain, develop and adapt prevention, promotion and control activities and services in the field of occupational health and safety.
  • Participate in the monitoring and surveillance of occupational health and safety issues
  • Participate in various teaching and training activities in areas relevant to its practice
  • Carry out any other mandate entrusted to it by its manager.

REQUIREMENTS
Training:

  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ) ;
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or a bachelor's degree with 3 (three) qualifying certificates, including at least 2 (two) recognized nursing certificates.

Experience:

  • Three (5) years of nursing experience:

  • 1-2 years' experience in health protection in a health context is considered a major asset.

Knowledge and skills :

  • Knowledge of Cree culture, traditions, communities and language, as well as social and health issues in Eeyou Istchee;
  • Ability to integrate Eenou/Eeyou (Cree) culture, values, traditions and teachings into programs and services;
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of approaches, methods, issues and programs related to prevention and promotion of public and community health, particularly in the field of occupational health;
  • Knowledge of MSSS programs and regulations for front-line services is an asset;
  • Good professional experience in curative nursing or community health in a similar environment;
  • Teaching skills ;
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
  • Excellent communication, group facilitation, writing and presentation skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, listening, leadership and teamwork skills;
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational and decision-making skills;
  • Good knowledge of software applications such as Outlook, Word, Power Point, Excel.

LANGUAGES* Fluent in English and French;* Proficiency in Cree is an asset.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION* Available to travel inside and outside of the Eeyou Istchee territory as required; * This position is currently being offered telework, subject to operational needs.
