SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
A person is responsible for providing nursing care services according to the bio-psycho-social needs of users or groups under her/his care. She/he evaluates the health condition of users, as well as determines and implements nursing care and treatment plans. She/he provides nursing and medical care and treatment aimed at maintaining and restoring health, as well as preventing disease.

She/he plans, provides and evaluates teaching activities intended for the users, their relatives and groups of people. In addition, she/he participates in research activities aimed at promoting health and preventing disease.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
In collaboration with DPSQA-Health and Nephrologists, the nurse will assess potential candidates for the home hemodialysis (HHD) program. He/she will be responsible to make home visits before training is initiated. Visits will include evaluation of the home environment, access to water, and all criteria required for HHD. Recommendations will be made as needed. He/she will be responsible to create personalized training schedules, guide the clients towards competent management of their NxStage hemodialysis machine and their vascular access.

Following the completion of the in-center training, the nurse will accompany the client to their respective community to assist them in setting up and to provide initial support. In collaboration with the Administration Technician, he/she will teach the client regarding their supply needs and how to order them. Once the client is home, routine home visits will include, client assessment, skills evaluation, and home support. The nurse will also provide remote support to the client related to their home dialysis therapy.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:

  • Member in good standing of the O.I.I.Q ;
  • DEC in nursing.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience as a nurse including:

  • Two (2) years of experience in different sectors of a hospital or clinics in CBHSSJB;

  • One (1) year of experience in Hemodialysis.

Knowledge and Abilities: * Knowledge of Cree culture and social and health issues in Eeyou Istchee (asset); * Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; * Good resistance to stress; * Excellent communication and listening skills; * Take initiative and be autonomous; * Open to others and their culture, ability to adapt to change, and to a new environment;* Show interest and empathy towards others; * Possess a capacity for analysis and synthesis.

LANGUAGE* Fluent in English;* Fluency in Cree or French is an asset;

ABOUT US
The Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay is responsible for providing health and social services for all persons residing permanently or temporarily in the Eeyou Istchee region, the Cree Territory of James Bay. It is a remote region in northern Quebec made up of nine communities of the Cree Nation, an Indigenous population of nearly 18,000 people.

The health and social services offered are front-line services provided in the nine local CMCs as well as second line services through the regional hospital centre in Chisasibi. When second- and third- line services cannot be provided in the community, patients are transported to institutions affiliated with McGill University's Réseau Universitaire Intégré de Santé (RUIS).
