Social Assistance Technicians are responsible for the provision of crisis intervention and support services, short-term counselling to all clients residing at the shelter. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide short-term counselling services that are consistent with the philosophy, goals and objectives established by Robin's Nest.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:

  • Diploma of college studies with specialization in Social Work Techniques, or Social Assistance Techniques from a school recognized by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport;
  • Holder of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training is an asset or willingness to follow it.

In the absence of a candidate matching the above-mentioned requirements, a candidate with a high school diploma or equivalency in a relevant discipline with three (3) years of appropriate experience may be considered.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS* To know and understand fully the social-economic factors on the issues of family violence impacting the affected families.* To develop and maintain an effective and supportive working relationship with all management, Robin's Nest team and partners. * Establish and maintain a warm and personal and supportive - though professional relationship with all clients and non-clients.* Ensure the strictest elements of a safe and secure environment are adhered to at all times within the shelter.* Ensure the strictest elements of CONFIDENTIALITY are adhered to at times with the shelter and in accordance with the social work code of ethics.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and experience with public and community health prevention and promotion related approaches, methods, issues and programming (and in First Nation contexts being an asset);
  • Knowledge of MSSS programs and regulations for first lines services is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Cree culture, and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Miyupimaatisiiun healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
  • Good understanding of developmental psychology, and social domains;
  • Basic understanding of the services offered by the shelter and be aware of the other services available in the community and surrounding area;
  • Ability to work with the targeted clientele;
  • Excellent teamwork skills;
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational and decision-making skills;
  • Autonomous, likes to take initiative, flexible, discrete and empathetic;
  • Excellent communication skills, both group animation, written and presentation;
  • Ability in office-related computer application

LANGUAGE* Fluent in English;* Fluency in Cree and in French is an asset.
