Lead Technician - Tech Services

Education Centre

One (1) Full-time Position

40 Hours per Week; 12 month Position

Level 10 ($34.56 to $41.15 per hour)

The Information Technology Services Department seeks a highly skilled, adaptable, and proactive Technician to provide guidance and support across all IT teams, working independently and in a team environment.

This position is designed to be a resource for the entire department including:

  • Computer Technicians, Field Technicians (A/V equipment installation), TASK Team (Special Education Technology Coordinators), Helpdesk Team, MDM Team, as well as contributing to asset management and device procurement.
  • The ideal candidate will be versatile, with the ability to collaborate across all areas of IT and support the development of staff to ensure delivery of exceptional service & support delivery across the district.



This position may involve, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to technicians across various teams, fostering a collaborative and efficient working environment
  • Serve as a resource for all IT staff, offering technical expertise and support for issues relating to computers, Chromebooks, tablets, A/V equipment, modern device management (MDM), Helpdesk and more
  • Support asset management processes, including tracking, procurement, and decommissioning of technology assets
  • Coordinate and oversee technology deployments for academic, administrative, and special education initiatives, ensuring seamless integration and efficient rollouts
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of A/V equipment installations in classrooms and other educational spaces
  • Guide and support the Helpdesk Team to resolve complex technical issues and ensure high levels of service delivery
  • Guide and support the MDM Team in the management of mobile devices, tablets, and other devices used by staff and students, leveraging Intune for configuration, deployment, and monitoring
  • Help optimize IT service management processes, ensuring effective workflows across all teams and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Create and maintain documentation, knowledge base articles, and training resources for all IT systems and processes
  • Assist with vendor management and device procurement, ensuring the timely acquisition of devices and technology solutions, parts inventory and repairs
  • Make recommendations for improvements in technology systems and processes, while improving operational efficiencies
  • Maintain a strong focus on professionalism, client-centered service, and effective communication across all teams
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills, Qualifications, and Education Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-year college diploma/university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an enterprise IT environment (experience in K-12 educational environments is an asset)
  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and guiding cross-functional IT teams
  • Broad technical expertise across various IT domains, including hardware/software support & repair, networking, mobile device management (MDM), A/V equipment, and Helpdesk support
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Intune for managing, configuring, and deploying devices and software in an enterprise environment
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Microsoft, Google, Apple iOS and Android; proficiency with online learning and collaboration tools such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace for Education, and Microsoft Teams is an asset
  • Knowledge of asset management, procurement, and lifecycle management of technology devices
  • Experience with IT service management frameworks (e.g., ITIL, ITSM) and project management is an asset
  • Proficiency with IT ticketing/Helpdesk systems (e.g., Topdesk is preferred)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Physical work such as lifting, walking, standing, setup of technical equipment and ladder work is required
  • A valid drivers license is required, with the ability to travel to schools, offices, and other locations as needed
