HVAC/Maintenance Mechanic
Join the District School Board of Niagara and Maintenance Service Centre as a HVAC Maintenance Mechanic and become an integral part of an organized, and responsible Division dedicated to maintaining DSBN facilities and equipment for educational and curricular use.
Position Overview:
Summary: The DSBN Maintenance Division is seeking qualified, organized, and resourceful trade candidates to complete demand and programmed work orders. Maintenance of air handling systems, hydronic heating systems, and all associated assemblies is the main responsibility of this position.
The Maintenance Mechanic position is assigned work orders through the DSBN Maintenance Division computerized maintenance management system eBASE. Work orders are received electronically through a board-provided computer, and investigated on-site by troubleshooting components, and utilizing the resources and knowledge provided by the Maintenance Division Trade Foremen and Supervisors.
Duties:
- Perform demand, predictive, and preventative maintenance on air handling systems, hydronic heating systems, and all associated assemblies; as assigned.
- Take responsibility for all work performed ensuring compliance with all standard construction and maintenance practices including building codes, regulations, and standards.
- Ensure administrative and organizational tasks are completed thoroughly.
- Ensure adherence to all DSBN policies and procedures. Follow direction according to Trade Foreman, Supervisor, and/or Manager.
- Abide by terms of Collective Agreement.
- The primary duties described above shall not be considered the totality of responsibilities and tasks that may be assigned.
Qualifications:
- Either - Valid 313A Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Certificate of Qualification in good standing.
- Or - Valid G.1 - Gas Fitter Certificate of Qualification in good standing (O. Reg 215/01).
- And - Valid Ontario Driver's License.
Skills and Requirements:
- Knowledge and experience in servicing and troubleshooting a wide variety of air handling and hydronic heating systems such as unit ventilators, condensing boilers, hot water tanks, pumps, and electronic controls.
- Attention to detail and the capacity to produce organized, clear paperwork is integral.
Compensation and Benefits : Salary Grid Level 1-S, $33.97 per hour.
This is a permanent, reliable 40-hour position in the CUPE Union Group including group benefits, an OMERS pension plan, and incrementally progressing paid vacation. The Maintenance Mechanic will work primarily from the St. Catharines Service Centre (9 Wright Street, St. Catharines); and as required and assigned throughout the DSBN school system utilizing a DSBN Maintenance vehicle.
Hours of Work : 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday)
