Accounting Clerk - Temporary (until the return of the absent employee)
Location: Schumacher Board Office
Start date: As soon as possible
Vacancy Details: 1.0 FTE (full-time, 35 hours/week)
Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, the Accounting Clerk supports the accounting department by helping the Board meet its accounting compliance standards through accurate analysis, auditing, and other key accounting duties, including acting as a resource to schools and departments.
Education/Experience Requirements
Post Secondary school diploma in Business and/or Accounting or equivalent work experience in computerized accounting systems.
Demonstrated knowledge to allow for the understanding of accounting processes in a computerized system, month and year end procedures, account reconciliation, general ledger account coding within a large and complex chart of accounts, and audit processes.
Skill and Ability Requirements
Preparing, checking, and processing invoices, cheque requisitions, cash receipts, petty cash submissions and expense reimbursements for accuracy.
Reconciling vendor statements and responding to vendor inquiries
Preparing accounts payable cheques for payment including enveloping for distribution
Preparing, posting, and maintaining of journal entries, bank deposits and bank account reconciliations
Preparing periodic analysis and reports as required
Provide support to schools on School Cash program, year-end rollovers, and Ministry changes.
Maintaining accounts receivable, sub-ledger and preparing monthly customer statements
Maintaining accounting ledgers by posting, verifying account transactions, and ensuring proper costing to cost centers/departments.
Entering transactions, verifying statement reconciliations, and preparing monthly reports for Board purchasing cards
Maintaining office filing system and other departmental information
Assisting other departments as directed by supervisor.
Ensure compliance with general ledger account coding.
Process incoming mail by gathering, sorting, and separating data for processing.
Assist the financial services area in processing accounts payable, procurement and accounting/deposit transactions, including data input; reconciliations and preparing entries on an as need basis.
Other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
