Location: Downtown Kelowna
Type: Permanent part-time (22.5 hours per week) working a rotational schedule, 7:00am to 9:00pm.

We’re looking for a Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our Core Lab team in Kelowna, BC. You will be responsible for delivering in a timely manner the highest level of clinical and scientific quality to everyone we serve with a variety of testing using the latest technology. How YOU will make a difference:
  • Ensuring sample identification is correct and specimen requirements are met according to established procedures.
  • Performing routine testing duties within Chemistry and Hematology which includes but not limited to analyzer maintenance, calibration, QC and troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring quality control standards are maintained, investigating missing samples and performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Recording, interpreting and/or approving test results.
  • Identifying and reporting of incidents and non-conformities
What YOU bring to the role:
  • You thrive independently, applying sound decision making principles and ability to self-manage in fast-paced environment
  • You bring a high level of interpersonal skills and you are a natural fit within a collaborative working environment
  • Carry a CSMLS Registration as a practicing Medical Laboratory Technologist in good standing
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel and Outlook at an intermediate level
  • Solid ability to troubleshoot technical issues and provide recommendations for resolution
  • Nice to have: working experience in the Chemistry or Hematology field, knowledge and understanding of Diagnostic Accreditation standards.

Salary from $34 per hour
The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.

JOB SUMMARY

High-level description of the purpose of the job

Responsible for the performance and release of various laboratory tests following set processes and procedures. Ensure

all quality control checks and reference materials are run as required. Participate in all quality assurance programs and

adheres to company and external regulatory bodies guidelines. Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment

as appropriate.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

List of critical duties that the incumbent is expected to perform


Ensure sample identification is correct and specimen requirements are met according to established

procedures










Responsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation and results in their department

Perform sample analysis using a variety of manual and automated procedures

Record, interpret and/or approve test results according to established procedures in a timely manner

Ensure that abnormal Stat and critical results are handled as outlined in the department guidelines

Responsible to sign-off on reports as required

Consult with department Senior MLT or Manager to assist with non-routine problems or concerns

Ensure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner

Evaluate new methods and instruments under supervisory review where directed

Ensure that Quality Control (QC)/Quality Assurance (QA) is performed according to department processes and

procedures




Participate in external proficiency testing programs and/or other quality activities

Follow guidelines as required by external regulatory bodies

Responsible to follow all relevant pre and/or post analytical QA processes as described in the company quality

manual


Contribute towards Dynacare’s learning and knowledge based culture by sharing in the responsibility of

training and skill development of new team members as requested







As directed, participate and prepare for regular accreditation inspections

As directed, participate in the review of procedural documents for accuracy and effectiveness

Observe and report all malfunctions with equipment and record all corrective action(s) taken

Follow manufacturer’s guidelines for the operation, maintenance, and minor troubleshooting

Maintain all logbooks for routine equipment maintenance

If applicable ensure adequate amount of supplies are on hand and that validated in date reagents and testing

kits are used


Ensure maintenance of inventory records
