Our client, located in the West Island of Montreal, off Highway 40 in Baie d’Urfe, is a company specializing in structural and ornamental metals, and is looking for a qualified full-time Steel Buyer to join their team.

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase of all raw materials, (Steel, Stainless Steel, Specialty metals)
  • Coordinate all sublet processes (Cutting, Bending, Painting, Polishing)
  • Coordinate all galvanizing (Scheduling, transport, weights, etc.)
  • Coordinate of all subcontracted items (Structure and miscellaneous metals)
  • Purchase of all shop supplies (Welding, Protective equipment, general, misc. supplies)
  • Purchase of all tooling (Blades, Tools, Equipment, Specialty)
  • Maintain and oversee all stock and raw material inventory.
  • Provide weekly status reports on inventory levels in yard, shop racks and stock rooms.
  • Maintain and oversee tooling and equipment. (Quantity, location, certification, periodic maintenance and repairs)
  • Coordinate tool rentals (one time and recurring for location, duration, paperwork, etc.)
  • Coordinate all transport and deliveries with production manager, project managers and foremen (internal and external trucking)
  • Control, maintain and coordinate all records and paperwork with office manager (bill of lading, purchase orders, equipment certification, galvanizing reports, truck delivery slips, truck inspection slips, etc.)
  • Oversee and control shipping and receiving (confirm bill of ladings for quality and quantity against purchase orders and project numbers)
  • Assist and coordinate with all stakeholders, in particular the production manager, project managers, and foremen, in the relevant tasks to prepare materials against work orders for all jobs. (Bolt list, equipment and specialty tooling)


Requested skills

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in steel procurement, sourcing, or purchasing.
  • Relevant knowledge of construction, project management
  • Bachelor's or DEP degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Knowledge of the steel industry, including market trends, grades, and specifications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in French and English
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
