MANAGER, NURSING UNIT
FULL-TIME POSITIONS

Position Summary:
The Manager, Nursing Unit serves as a vital member of the Resident Services leadership team, with primary responsibility for ensuring the round-the-clock delivery of resident-focused care and services within specified resident groupings. This role entails overseeing operating budgets and staffing for approximately 112+ long-term care beds, as well as any assigned clinical portfolios, including but not limited to, Skin & Wounds, Falls and Restraints, Medication, Palliative Care, etc.
Required Experience and Education:
- Member in good standing of the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Postgraduate degree required or other equivalent combination of formal training and experience may be considered.
- Minimum 4-5 years experience in a Nursing Leadership position including experience managing/supervising employees in a unionized environment.
- Clinical experience in long-term care setting and/or gerontological nursing a definite asset.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with clinical portfolios in long term care, including Infection Prevention and Control
Required Experience and Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) preferred.
- A postgraduate degree in health sciences required or other equivalent combinations of post-secondary education and experience may be considered.
- Must be a member in good standing of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a Nursing Leadership position, including managing/supervising employees in various disciplines, in a unionized environment required.
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience in a long-term care setting and/or gerontological nursing is required.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with clinical portfolios in long-term care is essential.
Other Key Qualifications:
- Excellent organizational, observational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent nursing assessment abilities.
- Capacity to work effectively under pressure and handle difficult situations professionally.
- Proficient in demonstrating and articulating resident and employee safety strategies.
- Strong ability and experience in interacting with and caring for seniors, including those with cognitive impairments.
- Demonstrated aptitude to work independently, as well as lead and collaborate within teams.
- Proven ability in managing responsive behaviours using a client-centered approach.
- Experience in planning, developing, and implementing programs to address operational and resident needs, with a focus on evaluating program performance and reporting achievements.
- Demonstrated experience in managing staff, including leadership, motivation, performance monitoring, and evaluation, within complex and high-volume work environments.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills for effective partnership building and sustained relationships with internal and external stakeholders, as well as report writing.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for assessing operational performance, identifying risks, developing improvement plans, conducting research, investigations and analysis, and monitoring budgets.
- Good organizational and time management skills with minimal direction.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively during high-volume periods.
- Proficiency in dealing with day-to-day labour relations matters within a unionized environment.
- Ability to assist in reviewing business processes and conducting analyses to streamline and enhance work efficiencies.
- General knowledge and understanding of government legislation, including the Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act and its Regulation, as well as other relevant areas such as labour, employment, human rights, health, safety, and WSIB.
- Proficiency in using various computer software packages, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and PointClickCare.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including rotating shifts (days, nights, weekends, and statutory/religious holidays), as required.
- Proficiency in Italian language is a definite asset.
Compensation:
$91,000 annually (not negotiable)
Comprehensive Benefits package, including Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
Hours of Work:
37.5 hours weekly. Work during evening, nights and weekends may be required from time to time. Also required to available for Admin-on-Call on a rotational basis.
