Position: Manager, IPAC & Clinical Education
9:00am-5:00pm; 75hrs biweekly
Weekends and evening work may be required.
Status: Permanent Full Time

The Clinical and Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Educator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for healthcare professionals, including staff, volunteers, and students with emphasis on standards of practice, quality assurance, best practice and policy development, as well as educational programs for families/caregivers to ensure compliance and infection prevention protocol standards/practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Creates, modifies, distributes, monitors and evaluates curriculum/training for clinical staff in relation to clinical programs, best practices, new policies/practices to ensure legislative and regulatory compliance.
- Supports the philosophy of CQI and facilitates the use of CQI tools and techniques in problem solving in all clinical and IPAC areas.
- Facilitates, organizes, evaluates formal and informal training/education on an ongoing basis, including educational seminars/webinar, in-service education, and e-learning modules.
- Build clinical practices competencies and practice within regulatory bodies standards and legislative requirements.
- In collaboration with the IPAC lead, creates, modifies, distributes, monitors and evaluates curriculum/training for all stakeholders for in relation to Infection Prevention Control as follows:
- basic, intermediate, and advanced principles and practices in IPAC.
- infectious disease, prevention strategies, and vaccinations.
- new emerging infectious diseases and organisms.
- outbreak prevention and management.
- proper hygiene, isolation, screening, immunization, doffing and donning.
- Appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
- Respiratory hygiene.
- Hand hygiene.
- Conduct a formal annual staff needs assessment for all clinical and IPAC education/training needs and determine skills gap and create education plan and calendar for the year.
- Prepare and execute an annual education calendar to ensure mandatory and ongoing training needs are planned and executed to ensure compliance.
- Work with respective teams to prepare and facilitate IPAC, Health & Safety, and Emergency Preparedness weeks and other educational activities for clinical staff.
- Develop and execute appropriate training programs related to areas of concern or areas for improvement identified through audits, complaints, and other regulatory and legislative reviews.
- Work with all departmental managers and supervisors to provide and facilitate education/training strategies and tactics related to departmental policies and procedures implementation related to clinical and IPAC practices, i.e., housekeeping, laundry, food services, programs, etc.
- Visit with all departments on a continuous basis and conduct on-the-spot education and training to ensure adherence to infection prevention and control and clinical standards and protocols.
- Compile and review education compliance monthly and prepare statistical data for review and follow-up by departmental managers/supervisors, including electronic education.
- Ongoing and annual review and evaluation of all online clinical and IPAC education on Surge and Safety 24/7 to ensure proper implementation, compliance, and relevancy.
- Source improved educational programs, speakers, facilitators, etc., and work with departmental managers to ensure maximized attendance.
- Retain educational training records for all courses (internal & external) and work with Human Resources to update employee skills/training documentation.
- Develop and/or participate in creating awareness clinical/IPAC campaigns for the purpose and objectives of a clinical and IPAC program by organizing education campaigns, i.e., immunization, sanitization, hand hygiene, lifts, and transfers, falls prevention, resident abuse, etc.
- Provide education to staff and others as needed on the use, maintenance, and storage of any newly purchased or implemented clinical/IPAC related tools, software, equipment, and supplies.
- Participates in organizations committees as assigned.
- Participates in internal/external committee work as required
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- A degree or diploma in Nursing (RPN or RN), with a bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
- A current certificate of competence from the College of Nurse Ontario is required.
- Certificate in Adult Education an asset or equivalent experience preferred.
- Mimunum of 2 years of long-term care working experience, required 3-5 years of leadership experience in professional practice, preferred.

- In-depth knowledge of the Fixing Long Term Care Home Act and Regulations and other relevant legislation.
- IPAC education and experience in: Infectious Diseases, Cleaning & Disinfection, Data Collection & Trend Analysis, Reporting Protocols, Outbreak Management, Asepsis, Microbiology, Adult Education, Epidemiology, Program Management.
- Completion of IPAC Canada endorsed course preferred. (Must enrol post hire if not already completed).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
- Professional competencies related to life-long learning, public relations, and health environment awareness.
- Possession of strong motivational, team building and time management skills.
- Motivated, self-directed; ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Intermediate computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) with a strong aptitude for technology and computer-based tools.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize work, meet deadlines, be detail oriented and accurate, in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in the workplace.
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
- A police reference check for the vulnerable sector, not older than 6 months, will be required.
- Proficiency in written and spoken Italian and definite asset.
