Job Description

REGISTERED DIETITIAN McCall Centre for Continuing Care (50hrs/biweekly)

Candidates are invited to apply for the position of Registered Dietitian (50hrs/biweekly) at McCall Centre for Continuing Care, a 120 bed medical facility located in Etobicoke Ontario. The Registered Dietitian provides nutritional care services for patients within legislative and budgetary parameters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a member of the Clinical Team, the Registered Dietitian

  • consults with and advises the Dietary Manager and Director of Care concerning nutrition and follow-up for patients:
  • completes nutritional assessments for patients
  • works in collaboration with SLP's, completes swallowing assessments
  • determines an individualized diet for patients and other nutritional interventions to meet his/her needs by involving patient, family member and care team
  • develops, implements and evaluates nutritional care plans that includes identification of nutritional concerns, goals and interventions for all patients
  • implementing and monitoring enteral nutrition
  • maintains excellent communication with the Dietary Manager regarding the changing needs of the patients
  • reviews two seasonal menus for nutritional adequacy and provides approval in writing
  • educates patients, family members and team members regarding nutrition and hydration recommendations
  • acts as a member of the interdisciplinary team, acts as a representative of Extendicare, through participation in regional and professional activities as appropriate
  • participates in interdisciplinary committees related to patient care and facility operation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Dietitian, eligible for membership with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Extensive knowledge of geriatric nutrition
  • proficiency with computer applications - Microsoft Office and internet
  • excellent organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills in a fast paced environment
  • knowledge of occupational health & safety practices, principles and legislation
  • excellent oral and written communication skills are essential
  • customer focused attitude, with demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective team relationships with staff and patients
