Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance of import/export processes with the requirements of North American customs authorities.

Review trade and customs documentation, including tariff classification (HTS), product origin, customs valuation, and regulatory recordkeeping.

Develop and maintain internal compliance procedures, particularly regarding certificates of origin, ATA carnets, TIBs, and other customs programs.

Collaborate with internal teams (logistics, procurement, engineering, finance, etc.) to integrate customs requirements into business processes.

Provide ongoing training and support to internal stakeholders on regulatory standards and customs compliance best practices.

Review product nomenclatures and descriptions to ensure accurate tariff classifications and consistent data across systems.

Verify the accuracy of origin declarations and documents related to free trade agreements.

Contribute to the maintenance of product master data in the ERP system to ensure correct tariff codes and country of origin are applied to all items.

Ensure proper documentation compliance for certificates related to trade agreements such as CUSMA / USMCA / T-MEC.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented, and experienced professional with a strong background in North American customs compliance and a solid understanding of international trade principles. This individual will play a key role in ensuring regulatory compliance across cross-border operations in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in Canadian, U.S., and Mexican customs brokerage and trade compliance.

Strong knowledge of core trade principles including tariff classification (HTS), customs valuation, export controls, trade sanctions, and preferential trade programs.

Proven experience developing, implementing, and maintaining customs compliance procedures, ideally within a manufacturing context.

Demonstrated ability to manage complex import/export compliance issues and provide practical, compliant solutions.

Proficient in reviewing BOMs (Bills of Materials) to support correct classification and customs valuation for duty and tax determination.

Solid understanding of rules of origin and trade agreements, including CUSMA, USMCA, and T-MEC, as well as experience working with certificates of origin (COO).

Familiarity with FDA import requirements into the U.S., particularly for industrial or technical products (e.g., lighting or electronics), is a strong asset.

Understanding of Buy American Act (BAA) compliance and its impact on sourcing and procurement strategies.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to audit and improve compliance-related processes.

Ability to interpret and apply complex customs regulations, analyze trade data, and make informed decisions.

Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with internal departments (e.g., purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, finance) and external stakeholders (e.g., customs brokers, government agencies).

Bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset.

Certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or Certified Trade Compliance Specialist (CTCS) are considered strong assets.

Willingness and ability to travel as needed.
