We are looking for a Bilingual Operations Manager, for our client in the shipping industry, located in the Old Port of Montreal.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate effectively with diverse teams, demonstrating leadership to achieve common goals.
- Supervise a technician to ensure equipment compliance with operating standards.
- Assess risks related to port activities and mooring arrangements, ensuring safe marine operations.
- Monitor ship operations at various terminals to identify inefficiencies ashore.
- Collaborate with navigation management to ensure operational resilience, particularly in cargo management and navigation.
- Provide technical expertise for new developments and continuously improve operations.
- Participate in ship-to-ship operations, monitor loading and unloading, and investigate incidents to improve performance.
- Assist the department manager in developing operations in new ports and with new suppliers.
- Liaise between LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) suppliers and the company for bunkering operations, maintaining strong working relationships.
- Participate in LNG spill drills.
- Assume responsibility for equipment, including replacement, inventory and maintenance.
- Maintain professional relationships with equipment suppliers and seek alternative solutions to meet standards.
- Manage Arctic equipment, working with the technician to ensure its maintenance.
- Manage the Arctic budget (OPEX and CAPEX) and approve expenses related to operations.
- Manage equipment inventories at the beginning and end of the season, gathering feedback for improvements.
- Ensure the mobilization and demobilization of Arctic vessels, guaranteeing smooth operations.
- Maintain regular contact with Arctic vessels to optimize operations and anticipate risks.
- Keep abreast of regulations relating to Arctic trade and operations.
- Provide support to vessels and participate in site visits as required.
- Prepare key performance indicators in collaboration with commercial teams.
- Be responsible for spill exercises and pre-season training sessions.
- Identify infrastructure improvement opportunities for the ocean protection program.
- Assist in updating Arctic manuals.
Skills required:
- Degree in navigation, marine engineering or relevant training with significant experience.
- Minimum 5 years experience on tankers as an officer/engineer.
- Understanding of mechanical equipment and systems, ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems.
- Experience in the Canadian Arctic is an asset.
- Excellent relationship management and stakeholder communication skills.
- Knowledge of marine operations, stevedoring and charter contracts.
- Good knowledge of ISGOT, ISM, ISO and TMSA standards.
- Ability to lead a team and inspire commitment.
- Initiative to identify possible improvements.
- Sense of priorities and ability to detect problems quickly.
- Strong sense of responsibility and commitment.
- Ability to solve problems effectively.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual in French and English.
