Foothills School Division (FSD) serves the learning needs of approximately 8000 students from preschool to grade 12. We operate 22 public schools, an online digital school, an alternative campus, and three colony schools. These are located in the towns of Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley, and the communities of Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Heights, Red Deer Lake, Longview, Millarville and Foothills County.
The Role
We are inviting applications for a Payroll Specialist to join the Employee Services team on a part-time basis (17.5 hours per week). The successful incumbent will be responsible for the monthly payroll function, including but not limited to: general employee inquiries, processing payroll, and benefits administration.
This is an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional who has experience auditing and implementing payroll best practices within an established payroll system. Working within a collaborative HR team, we are seeking a candidate to compliment our payroll team of professionals who are focused on enhancing the employee experience and payroll practices. Strong interpersonal and communication skills will be key to contributing to the service-based approach within the Employee Services team. The payroll function supports over 900 employees under four different collective agreements, as well as an exempt group of employees.
Experience & Education
To ensure success in this role, a minimum of three years' payroll experience is required. Preference will be given to applicants with Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) certifications through the National Payroll Institute (NPI). Experience administrating health and wellness benefit programs, the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) and/or the Alberta Teacher's Retirement Fund (ATRF) is a strong asset. The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively within Microsoft Office suite, including advanced MS Excel skills, which is required.
Payroll experience within a unionized public sector environment is an asset for this position.
