Our Division & Communities

Foothills School Division (FSD) serves the learning needs of approximately 8000 students from preschool to grade 12. We operate 22 public schools, an online digital school, an alternative campus, and three colony schools. These are located in the towns of Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley, and the communities of Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Heights, Red Deer Lake, Longview, Millarville and Foothills County.

The School Leader Candidate

In accordance , the following school leader profile reflects the leadership competencies, attributes, skills and knowledge required for the role of Vice Principal.

A successful FSD Vice Principal candidate will be a confident, energetic and positive person who:

be an experienced teacher with knowledge and skills in:

  • developing shared responsibility for the success of all students

  • cultivating quality teaching through differentiated instruction and effective pedagogy within a continuum of supports (universal to individualized)

  • demonstrating a strong understanding of effective pedagogy and curriculum

  • creating a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environment

  • clear communication while fostering a collegial environment with staff and parents

  • effective use of educational technologies for teaching, learning, and leadership

  • nurturing and sustaining a culture that supports evidence-informed teaching and learning

  • instructional leadership and staff development based on current research that ensures every student has access to quality teaching and optimum learning experiences

  • enabling opportunities for members of the school community to develop leadership capacity and to support others in fulfilling their educational roles.

Qualifications:

To prepare for this role, you have:
  • Master’s degree, complete or near completion, in educational leadership or a related field

  • Alberta Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) certification or commitment to complete

  • proven record of successful educational leadership experiences
