Description

As an R&D metallurgical engineer, you will have to collaborate daily with 3 members of the engineering team composed of 10 employees in total.

The R&D metallurgical engineer is also responsible for:

  • Carry out design, prototyping and analysis activities as part of the development of new diamond tools according to the priorities established with the product committee
  • Characterize, analyze and develop metallic and composite products manufactured by powder metallurgy
  • Perform studies on the properties and characteristics of materials
  • Participate with technicians in tests on mining exploration drilling sites for the technical validation of products according to the validation plan
  • Participate in identifying, developing and supervising research and development partnerships with companies, organizations, educational institutions, or other
  • Perform watch activities (patent and technology watch, competition) to identify new scientific directions and development opportunities
  • Participate in meetings bringing together site technicians to improve the portfolio of development projects as well as to obtain their feedback on Fordia's products, those of competitors and our ongoing R&D projects
  • Support the production department and subcontractors in solving problems during product manufacturing
  • Support the quality department in the analysis of internal or external non-conformities
  • Provide technical training on drilling and on the products used according to the training plan
  • Participate in the process of applying for credits and grants within the framework of development projects
  • Assist the purchasing department in the qualification of critical suppliers
  • Assist the continuous improvement department in the deployment of equipment having an impact on the manufacturing process

Requested skills

Requirements

  • Holds a university degree in materials or metallurgical engineering
  • Member of the OIQ/PEO or a candidate for the engineering profession (FARPACTA)
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar position
  • Bilingualism (French and English) spoken and written
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid passport
  • Business trips (4-6 weeks/year)

Required skills

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of product development and powder metallurgy processes
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing (an asset)
  • Strong project management skills
  • Sharp sense of customer service
  • Has an established network of contacts in metallurgy and/or in the industry (an asset)
  • Insight, adaptability, autonomy, relational agility, collaboration, results-oriented
