We have an exiciting opportunity for a Full Time Coordinator supporting the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) department. This is a multi-site position with the primary location at Burnaby, B.C. MDR is vital to keeping the hospital functioning and ensuring safe surgical tools are used in every hospital procedure and surgery – ranging from eye operations and C-sections to endoscopies and emergency-room treatments. Once medical devices are used, they are sent for sterilization or high-level disinfection to make them safe for use again

The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multi-phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernized medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is slated to open in spring 2025 and phase two in 2030.
Highlights of the two-phase redevelopment project include:
- Expanded Emergency Department with additional treatment spaces
- New health care pavilion with 83 beds to support maternity, neonatal intensive care, medicine and mental health patients
- New operating rooms, procedure rooms and recovery spaces
- New acute care tower with 160 beds
- New medical imaging department
- New integrated BC Cancer Centre

Detailed Overview
Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:
Reporting to the Manager/Director, Medical Device Reprocessing, the Coordinator participates as a member of the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) management team in the strategic and operations planning and development of policies and procedures for the program, and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational requirements of assigned area(s) within the program.
Supervises staff for the assigned area(s) including making determinations on selection and discipline, providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to team members, and coordinating related training and orientation. The Coordinator interacts regularly with personnel at all levels within the organization including Directors, Managers and Physicians regarding Medical Device Reprocessing services and operational activities and communicates with key internal and external stakeholders, committees and task groups as required for conducting daily business and achieving program goals and objectives. Strives to enhance MDR service delivery for the Community of Care (CoC) Area and overall health authority, participates in quality assurance activities, and provides input into budget for assigned area(s).
Responsibilities
- Coordinates activities of assigned Medical Device Reprocessing team (s) by establishing and communicating priorities and overseeing activities. Coordinates related training and orientation.
- Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, rules and regulations regarding supplies and equipment processed within assigned area(s). Collaborates with colleagues and co-workers at other locations to ensure standardization and consistency.
- Liaises and collaborates with Directors, Managers, Physicians, external agencies and other resources as appropriate to communicate policies and procedures to facilitate, promote and ensure maximum service delivery.
- Ensures appropriate documentation is established to solicit input needed to support program/service delivery and/or plans; represents the MDR program on committees.
- Provides leadership and guidance to unionized staff using effective management techniques (e.g., coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, performance management) to support the achievement of required outcomes and ensure adherence to accreditation, regulatory, and safety standards.
- As appropriate, supervises designated staff for the assigned area.
- Participates in quality improvement, risk management and infection control activities for Medical Device Reprocessing and facilitates implementation of approved modifications and evaluation of process effectiveness within assigned area(s) to ensure optimal use of organizational resources and safe delivery of patient care.
- Participates as a member of the Leadership team in strategic and operations planning including the development of policies and procedures.
- Provides input into departmental budget as it relates to assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Assists in making determinations on selection and discipline.
- Communicates with key internal and external stakeholders, committees and task groups as required.
Graduation from a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician program which includes theory and practicum in MDR (CMRDT certified); plus certification in CHL (Certified Health Care Leader) from Health Care Sterile Processing Association and/or CSPM (Certified in Sterile Process Management) from a recognized MDR Certification Board, and/or Management Program from an accredited educational institution such as BCIT; plus five (5) years recent related MDR experience inclusive of supervisory/leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
