Detailed Overview
Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families.
Leads the utilization of key interprofessional professional practice structures to advance practice excellence quality patient outcomes. This includes strategic planning/design, implementation, promotion, evaluation and maintenance of processes and infrastructure related to competency frameworks. The Leader coordinates the development of models of care that are based on the principles of team based care. Leads and supervise assigned staff who support knowledge translation via practice support in partnership with point of care clinical leaders and educators that resonates towards a compassionate and quality practice environment.
Responsibilities
- Leads the development and utilization of competency frameworks, in collaboration with educators and leaders using evidence-based methods.
- Partners with Learning Strategy and Innovation for the purpose of competency based learning being foundational for any curricula or education initiative.
- Coordinates team and department resourcing to partner with programs or networks to build models of care in collaboration with People Strategies and Learning Strategy and Innovation.
- Collaborates with Professional Practice team members, health teams, health leaders, and other relevant key partners to build Fraser Health's care delivery capacity while ensuring alignment with scope of practice identified by regulatory bodies and standards of care.
- Represents Fraser Health and Professional Practice in discussions related to competencies as foundational to health education programs as they pertain to Fraser Health needs.
- Provides oversight over toolkits, templates and documents supporting models of care.
- Engage teams in Interprofessional practice that is based on cultural safety and team based care principles.
- Leads team to engage point of care staff and clinical leaders with new initiatives and changes to practice that have regional impact.
- Partner with Professional Practice leadership in process for practice environment assessment and action plan based on priorities identified.
- Monitors practice trends and quality data, identifies opportunities that promote innovation and partnership for improvement, and supports the consistent delivery of quality care. Ensures that effective processes are in place to assess practice and workflow related to these initiatives within all interprofessional clinical teams.
- Advises and makes recommendations to the Professional Practice Directors regarding trends and opportunities that will help advance interprofessional practice.
- Collaborates with other health authorities and external organization to evaluate care models and team based practices that can be considered for use within Fraser Health. Keeps informed of new provincial or federal regulations and accreditation standards; ensures Fraser Health policies, tools and resources are aligned with new or changed requirements.
- Prepares and manages assigned budget to reflect the ongoing needs of the portfolio and within departmental guidelines and Fraser Health standards.
- Provides reports, updates and communications to senior leadership, executive sponsors, and Ministry of Health as required.
- Provides operational management including recruitment, retention, professional growth and performance management of staff and budget accountability for the portfolio.
Education, Training & Experience
Master's Degree in a health care profession, education, or a health care related field, plus seven (7) years of recent, related experience in a complex health care environment including progressive professional practice, education, project management and leadership experience. Current practicing registration or certification with the applicable regulatory college and/or professional association in British Columbia.

Professional/Technical Capabilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of professional practice, nursing regulations and nursing standards, the Health Professions Act and their application across the continuum of care.
- Ability to guide and build consensus with interprofessional areas across the organization including physicians, nursing, allied health, pharmacy services.
- Advanced competency in project/program implementation, management and evaluation.
- Understanding of nursing models of care and resource utilization and ability to provide effective recommendations that also ensures quality of care.
- Ability to lead organization change.
- Familiarity with current trends and issues relating to nursing.
- Ability to develop and evaluate audit tools that provides meaningful feedback to clinical areas.
- Ability to identify opportunities that promote improved quality clinical care.
- Advanced writing skills and ability to articulate changes in policy and guidelines.
- Ability to manage staff and budgets effectively.
- Proficiency in the use of personal computers and related technology.
