Detailed Overview
Performs a variety of skilled plumbing work at the journeyman level in the installation, alteration and repair of plumbing systems; installs, tests, maintains and repairs natural gas lines; inspects and test cross connection and backflow prevention systems; reviews work requests; carries out relevant preventive maintenance; maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment; operates and repairs steam and heating boilers/air conditioning systems.
Responsibilities
- Installs and/or repairs gas, air, water and medical gases systems; installs, tests and repairs cross-connection preventative devices; repairs and maintains ward plumbing fixtures; repairs and replaces taps, faucets, mixing valve, isolation valves, toilets etc.; installs/repairs steam piping.
- Reviews work requests and consults with user departments regarding specifications and other project requirements; interprets drawings, and specifications in order to determine materials and equipment required; calculates materials and labour in estimating cost of projects and makes recommendations as required.
- Prepares for work project by arranging work schedule with user departments and assembling supplies, tools and equipment.
- Carries out plumbing preventive maintenance by inspecting piping systems, cross-connection preventative devices, drains and other plumbing fixtures for repair and maintenance needs, ensuring that applicable codes and regulations are followed.
- Sets up and maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment, and tools; completes related reports and records; recommends purchases of related tools, equipment and supplies.
- Maintains logs and records tests of plumbing equipment, eye wash stations, fire pumps, cross-connection preventative devices and plumbing fixtures and equipment; assigns inventory numbers to newly purchased plumbing tools and equipment; ensures that changes to piping systems are indicated on an "As Built" set of drawings.
- Sets up and maintains a labeling system for all piping to conform to Occupational Health & Safety (WCB) and CSA codes and regulations.
- Participates on various internal and external committees as required.
- Assists and relieves the Plant Maintenance Engineer in the operation and repair of steam boilers and ancillary steam equipment as required; adheres to the bylaws of the Provincial Pressure Vessel Act, Code and Regulations.
- Maintains working areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a journeyman Plumber, Class B level Gas Fitter's License with an electrical endorsement recognized by the Province of BC. Valid Certificate of Competency as a Cross Connection Control Specialist issued by the American Water Works Association, British Columbia Section.
Certificate of Competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of B.C.
Two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
