Nurse Practitioner - Palliative Care - Residency Opportunity

We are seeking a compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our Chilliwack Palliative Care team to practice in a clinical setting (acute, hospice, & community). As a Nurse Practitioner specializing in palliative care, you’ll play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for patients and their families. You will be an integral part of a collaborative and collegial team of physicians, nurses, and allied health staff, working together to provide exceptional patient care.  

Chilliwack General Hospital

Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH) is a University of British Columbia affiliated community hospital, whose role is to provide primary, core secondary, and some specialty services. These include services such as 24/7 emergency and acute care, general and internal medicine, cardiac care, obstetrics, general surgery and certain surgical subspecialties, inpatient, and outpatient care. Chilliwack General Hospital provides inpatient psychiatric care for adults along with outpatient detox for adults with substance use issues.

Residency Opportunity

This position will also have a new and exciting postgraduate up to six-month nurse practitioner residency program. You will receive in depth in house advanced training within a clinical area relevant to the position, improve your team collaboration and develop a model of patient centred care.  This is your opportunity to consolidate your nurse practitioner education with a team helping to support your successful transition into independent practice.

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible and accountable for the comprehensive assessment of patients/clients/residents including diagnosing diseases, disorders, and conditions. The Nurse Practitioner initiates treatment including health care management, therapeutic interventions and prescribes medications in accordance with the statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions, and employer policies and procedures. The Nurse Practitioner provides professional guidance to other health professionals and practices autonomously and interdependently within the context of an interdisciplinary health care team, making referrals to specialist physicians and others as appropriate.

The position collaborates with patients/clients/residents and other health professionals to identify and assess trends and patterns that have implications for patients/clients/residents, families and communities; develops and implements population and evidence based strategies to improve health and participates in policy-making activities that influence health services and practices. The position participates in peer review and self review to evaluate the outcome of services at the patient/client/resident, community and population level.

Current practicing registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
