We currently have exciting Casual opportunities for Pharmacy Assistants IA to join our teams at Crosstown Clinic, Downtown Community Health Centre and Hope to Health Centre located in Vancouver, BC

 

Community pharmacy experience or interest, working with marginalized Mental Health & Substance Use populations required. 

This position is for our Vancouver Downtown Eastside group of pharmacies – Crosstown Clinic, Downtown Community Health Centre and Hope to Health Centre.

Detailed Overview

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator, Pharmacy Services or designate, assists with medication dispensing by measuring, non-sterile compounding, packaging, and distributing medications. Maintains stock levels, and performs clerical duties as assigned.


Responsibilities


  1. Receives, sorts, counts, measures and fills both patient-specific and non-patient-specific medication containers. Assists in the distribution of patient-specific and non-patient-specific medications to patient care units as directed and maintains appropriate records.
  2. Compounds non-sterile pharmaceutical products according to established protocols.
  3. Repackages medications into unit-of-use format. Maintains repackaging and compounding records.
  4. Maintains appropriate quantities of wardstock medications (manual or automated dispensing cabinet system). Performs a validation of the accuracy of wardstock medications selected by other pharmacy staff in accordance to established policies and procedures. Maintains records of medication selection accuracy and the results of quality assurance reviews.
  5. Maintains pharmacy department inventory and wardstock quantities for non-controlled and controlled medications. Distributes and maintains relevant inventory, transfer and wardstock delivery records.
  6. Identifies outdated drugs to be returned or destroyed by reviewing stock for lot expiry dates.
  7. Maintains department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order. Stocks pharmaceuticals, labels, containers and glassware in accordance with established procedures and standards.
  8. Performs related clerical duties such as answering telephone, filing and maintaining medication and prescription records.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience


Grade 12, graduation from a recognized Pharmacy Assistant course or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to type.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
