Job Summary
We are currently hiring Casual Porter positions to join our team at Peace Arch Hospital located in White Rock, B.C.
Peace Arch Hospital is a 171 bed hospital located in White Rock, B.C, primarily serving it’s local communities of South Surrey and White Rock. The hospital offers general medicine, surgery, maternity, inpatient, outpatient care and 24/7 Emergency services with over 51,000 visits annually.

Detailed Overview
The Porter transports patients, bodies, and materiel such as supplies, equipment, pharmaceuticals and any other materiel between Hospital areas; completes related record keeping duties.
Responsibilities
- Transports patients utilizing mechanical aids such as wheelchairs, and/or stretchers; transports bodies from wards to the Morgue; provides after-hours services as required; accepts bodies from external transport services, checks them into the morgue, and releases bodies following established procedures.
- Assists in transferring patients to and from beds, stretchers and wheelchairs.
- Ensures patients' needs are attended to while being transported; observes, responds and deals effectively with patients in distress and reports unusual patient conditions to the appropriate authority according to established procedures.
- Transports blood gases and laboratory samples as required; provides messenger service within the Hospital as required (i.e. charts, x-rays, lab specimens).
- Transports beds, equipment and material as required.
- Completes documentation regarding length of time to complete patient transport assignment, delays encountered, etc.; completes routine forms such as dispatch logs according to established procedures.
- Cleans equipment used in transport such as I.V. poles, suctions, stretchers and wheelchairs; changes linen and reports maintenance requirements for patient transport equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Grade 10, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Basic Life Support Level C certificate required.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
