Job Summary
We are currently looking to fill a Relief Full Time opportunity for a Respiratory Therapist at Burnaby Hospital located in Burnaby, BC. This position is available until August 2025 or until Return of Incumbent.

Detailed Overview
Performs diagnostic, therapeutic, and technical functions of the Respiratory Therapy Services within Burnaby Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Performs respiratory care to patients in accordance with established standards and procedures and/or as prescribed by physician such as initiation and education of patient to prescribed inhaled medications, breathing monitoring tools, mechanical ventilation on adult, pediatric and infant patients as prescribed by physician. Performs diagnostic testing, initiates oxygen therapy, and assists with home oxygen therapy. Provides artificial airway care, performs non-invasive physiological monitoring, obtains invasive arterial blood gases, and inserts radial arterial lines. Performs invasive endotracheal intubation; attends cardio-respiratory arrests.
- Maintains documentation on treatments given to patient, equipment parameter settings/values and patient/equipment observations.
- Performs cardio-respiratory physiological measurements and calculations, invasive and non-invasive, as required.
- Maintains documentation by ensuring reports, records, and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to established departmental standards.
- Changes respiratory therapy equipment on a routine basis in the critical care areas.
- Performs equipment quality control, maintenance, and minor repairs and maintains documented records.
- Assists with inservice education sessions on respiratory care and related respiratory equipment to nursing, medical, and other hospital personnel as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam. Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT). Current CPR Certificate, Professional Level C. Current Neonatal Resuscitation program certification.

- Demonstrated problem solving, organizational and decisionmaking skills, such as appropriate use of equipment, establishihg workload priorities and handling crisis situations.

- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to maintain knowledge of current developments in respiratory therapy by reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals and actively participating in relevant educational programs.
