Role Summary
The Events Manager role will champion private events at Friday Harbour Resort, reporting directly to the Events and Programming Assistant Director. This role will work closely with all the operating departments ensuring the selling, planning, organization, and execution of memorable events and private dining experiences, coordinating with clients, managing logistics, and ensuring positive guest experience.
This role will play an integral part of revenue generation across the Resort.
Responsibilities
- In collaboration with the Events and Programming Assistant Director, the event manager will optimize & grow the Private Events revenue across the resort
- Plan, organize, and execute memorable events and private dining experiences, coordinating with clients, managing logistics, and ensuring a positive guest experience
- Build rapport with clients, conduct needs assessment to understand their vision, goals, and specific requirements for the event
- Developing new relationships with clients & nurture the existing ones, managing the event budget, including negotiating terms with vendors and suppliers.
- Creation and distribution of different channels of communication such as proposals, contracts BEO’s, group resumes, & revenue reports.
- Proactive outreach to social and corporate clientele to secure new business
- Collaborate with the Events and Programming Assistant Director on a goal-oriented business plan and activities for continuous revenue growth
- Identify key performance indicators to qualify guest volumes and spend, routine assessment of all initiatives and market competitiveness
- Manage third party event company relationship and budget
- For all events, ensure compliance with insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements
- Provide visible leadership and communications to the resort and community
- Together with the Events and Programming Assistant Director Provide effective leadership to events team, and common vision for leading employees; access and recommend employee training and development; evaluating employee performance, when necessary, ensuring high employee morale
- Monitor and act as necessary to ensure that budget's revenue and expense goals are attained
- Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
- Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Degree in Business Administration, Hotel and Resort Management or related major
- 5 years’ experience with expertise in events, programming or community engagement
- Minimum 2 years’ leadership experience in a comparable position in a luxury resort operation
- Must possess excellent customer service skills
- Must be computer literate. The preferred candidate will have previous experience with Sales and Services software, Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Must be extremely responsible with integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance
- Stand, sit or walk for an extended period or for an entire shift
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
