Role Summary

This role has an overall responsibility for the seasonal supervision of daily operations within the Recreation and Leisure Department. Reporting to the Recreation and Leisure Manager, this position provides leadership and direction to our associates.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of all recreation programming including aquatic, waterfront, pool, fitness center and recreation activities
  • Provide direction and lead the start and end of shift briefings
  • Assist in leading a team of full time, part time and seasonal associates
  • Supervise Recreation Attendants across multiple areas, ensuring proper rotations and breaks are being taken
  • Ensure that service standards are met by associates in all areas
  • Ensure that department goals are communicated, understood, and met by associates
  • Coach and counsel associates on work related concerns to ensure satisfaction and productivity
  • Assist the Recreation and Leisure Manager in preparing and presenting performance management documentation to associates
  • Encourage, recruit, register and schedule guests to participate in recreation activities, promoting a fun and relaxing environment for guests
  • Greet and welcome guests and ensure their experience is positive
  • Serve as an individual contributor and department role model by performing technical or functional job duties such as facilitating an activity, registering guests or cleaning pool area
  • Oversee Resort animation facilitation and preparations
  • Work with the leadership team to ensure that associates are trained and clearly understand their role, responsibilities and performance expectations
  • Address guest concerns, requests or issues
  • Provide information to guests about recreation facilities and activities, lessons and equipment
  • Provide ongoing feedback to associates to help them develop their skills
  • Collaborate with Recreation and Leisure Manager to develop and carry-out ideas and procedures to continuously improve department performance
  • Assists in dealing with incidents, emergencies and customer complaints with efficiency and professionalism
  • Communicates daily with the Recreation Leadership team, providing constructive feedback, ideas for improvements, daily operations updates, etc.
  • Ensure that department goals are communicated, understood and met by associates
  • Coordinate tasks and work with other departments to ensure the department runs efficiently
  • Assists in dealing with incidents, emergencies and customer complaints with efficiency and professionalism
  • Issue and distribute uniforms and ensure associates are following grooming standards
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Recreation, Physical Education or a closely related field an asset
  • 2-4 years of supervisory experience in a recreation environment
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’ certification
  • SmartServe certification
  • Current NLS ‘Pool’ certification, preferred
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Must be computer literate. Preferred candidate will have previous experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be extremely responsible with integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
  • ORCA, Paddle Canada, or similar certification an asset
  • Ontario Boater License an asset
  • High Five certification an asset

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
  • Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting and pulling
  • Move over sloping, uneven or slippery surfaces
  • Significant exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Work area is located alongside deep water
