The Role

We are currently looking for you to take on the role of Production Lead / Business Manager in one of the various departments. In this position, you will support the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment and participate in training and developing of salaried and hourly employees, and in the development of highly effective teams.

You will support Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes across multiple departments and serves as a resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas while helping to meet or exceed production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Maintain awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality goals, and utilizes resources to solve quality issues.

  • Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union, and management.

  • Coach and mentor salary and hourly team members.

  • Understands and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements.

  • Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues.

  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping.

  • Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods.

  • Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training).

  • Achieve production schedules and product requirements (JPH, SPH, Line Transitions and uptime percentages) by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.

  • Follow and ensure compliance to all required Safety Policies and Procedures

  • Investigate all Safety incidents, ensure implementation of corrective actions.

  • Participate in Safety Observation Tours & Layered Audit process.

  • Ensure all GMS principles are deployed, understood and effective.

  • Coach & mentor Production Group Leaders.

  • Create a culture of continuous improvement across business metrics (SPQRCE).

  • Work closely with UNIFOR to develop a collaborative culture.

  • Develop, support and sustain Group Leader and Team Leader proficiency process.

  • Lead or attend production/quality/throughput improvement process meetings.

  • Provide direct supervision of hourly employees and the associated tasks with running a production group.

  • Complete performance appraisal requirements for direct reports

  • Backfill Shift Leader as required.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Diploma / University degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Previous plant floor experience in either a supervisory or engineering role.

  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and continuous improvement.

  • Experience in engineering change processes: Temporary Work Order/ Engineering Work Order/ Plan for Change/ Process Control Plan/ Tooling Equipment Bulletins/ PFMEA etc.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Flexibility to work in all shifts.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in a unionized environment

  • All Required Safety Training under GWSS

  • Understanding of Global Manufacturing System (GMS)

  • Experience with Time and Attendance and Manpower Planning

  • Experience in SAP

  • Labour Relations Training
