About the role

As Manager, Accounts Receivable, your core responsibilities are to lead the company processes and team relating to the issuance of credit and the collection of the Customer Accounts Receivable while monitoring overall credit risk with the goal of maximizing sales and minimizing bad debts.

Additionally, you will design and implement processes to improve cash flow and effective management of Aging Receivables, DSO and Bad Debt.

What will I do?

  • Manage, train, develop and motivate a team of experienced Accounts Receivable Collectors, Cash Application, and Credit Coordinators for all SMB and Large Enterprise customer portfolios across Canada.
  • Evaluate, recommend and document credit limits including research and reviews of customer profiles. Proactively monitoring AR spend through analytics to modify limits to match customer credit history and spend and improve Customer experience.
  • Minimize bad debt exposure and expenses through the direct management of credit terms, maintaining efficient collections, monitoring the portfolio for trends and warning signs
    • Initiate recovery actions against customers who are delinquent through 3rd party collection after exhausting all internal efforts
    • Guide investigations for root cause analysis and ensure that processes are put in place to make sure situations do not recur.
    • Work with Finance to ensure adequate Accounting Bad Debt provisions to mitigate risk exposure.         
  • Formulate and execute effective collection strategies to reduce outstanding balances and enhance team efficiency. Proactively troubleshoot and resolve non-routine credit/collection issues and promptly solution escalated issues.
  • Work with sales representatives, sales account managers and the sales admin team to optimize the customer experience by regularly providing credit guidance, attending customer calls for “big wins” and project coordination for new account set up and partnering for successful onboarding and implementation.
  • Prepare and present analytical reporting on Customer AR aging reports, reserves and other Business KPI’s. Produce monthly AR management dashboard reports.
  • Governance over company Credit and Collections policies to ensure compliance and enforcement, but also evaluate changes in customer and business to ensure policies are current and reflective of strategy.    
  • Drive continuous process improvements through automation and reduce touchpoints between customer and solution. Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounts receivable processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.   
  • Lead support for AR activities related to audits (internal & external), compliance to SOX Business process and access controls, and parent company 10-K/Q External reporting requirements.           

What qualifications do I need?

  • College diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • CCP (formerly FCI)) designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a related field and managing a Team.
  • Experience working with Credit Agency reports such as D&B, Equifax.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Above average Excel skills and strong technical aptitude with ability to find solutions to issues.
  • Proven team leadership skills.
  • Able to build credibility, rapport and trust with customers, Sales, your Team and Management.
  • Detailed oriented problem-solver & critical thinker that applies a sense of urgency for prioritization of customer issues and multiple activities in a continually evolving competitive environment.
  • A strong advisor with good judgement, willing to make recommendations and be accountable.
  • Experience in large ERP (AS400) Financial systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Power BI an Asset.
  • Knowledge of integrated accounts structure (EDI) and exposure to different types of Customer portals such as Ariba, Tradeshift, Coupa, etc.
  • Aptitude to take initiative and drive process improvements
  • Results-driven, self-starter who takes accountability for his/her work and a team player who contributes to the success of the department.
  • Curious about business processes with a desire to further develop financial and business acumen for yourself and within the team.
