The Compensation and Benefits Specialist, under the direction of the Director of Finance, is responsible for the seamless administration of payroll, benefits, and pension administration to an assigned portfolio. This role involves managing payroll systems, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, handling payroll and benefits related inquiries, and maintaining accurate records. The position requires an extremely high degree of attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality of information. The specialist will work closely with employees and calls for strength in building and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders. The role is a key resource to answer/resolve problems arising from pay and benefits activities.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Coordinate and process payment cycles ensuring that all data is entered in accordance with payroll deadlines, payment processes are executed, and that direct deposits and payments are produced.

Administer and interpret diverse and complex payroll, benefit, and pension regulations and collective agreements. Reply verbally or by written correspondence to all related enquiries.

Act as the first point of contact for payroll, benefit, and pension queries, responding to questions, providing guidance, and escalating issues when appropriate.

Responsible for data integrity and accuracy of pay and benefit related changes within AtrieveERP, benefits portal, pension portal, and other systems. This includes accountability for salary adjustments, changes to benefits, optional contributions, and other changes that impact pay and benefits provisions.

Process payroll documents in AtrieveERP for salary and hourly employees to meet existing payroll confirmation dates for salary and/or hourly employees.

Administer and interpret diverse and complex payroll, benefit, and pension regulations and collective agreements. Reply verbally or by written correspondence to all related enquiries.

Calculate and apply appropriate withholdings and deductions, including taxes, benefits, and garnishments.

Prepare monthly submissions for accounting and monthly remittances.

Qualifications and skills:

Degree or diploma in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) is considered an asset.

Proven experience in payroll and benefits administration.

Strong knowledge of payroll processes, benefits administration and relevant laws and regulations.

Proficiency in payroll software, HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.

Experience in payroll accounting and financial reconciliation is required.
