Working closely with the ship superintendents, you will ensure continuity of operations for our diverse fleet, while collaborating with our technical teams. You will coordinate all activities related to supply chain management, including contract negotiations, purchasing and logistics, for the assigned vessels and/or portfolio of goods and services, effectively meeting the needs of Transport Desgagnés and its associated companies.

This position will also provide you the opportunity to contribute to process modernization, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and play a strategic role in the supply chain.

More specifically, the Buyer-Logistician's main responsibilities are to:

  • Purchases parts and services for deck equipment, the wheelhouse, and the engine room, as well as purchases related to crew needs (food, bedding, laundry) and other miscellaneous purchases for TDI, and occasionally for other business units
  • Analyze and validate the content of requisitions with the ships as needed
  • Obtain quotes and issue orders for goods and services in compliance with the established procedures. Select the right supplier for the right product according to the best logistical strategy
  • Establish daily purchasing priorities for supplying the ships in collaboration with the superintendents and the crew
  • Meet supply deadlines (required date by the ship) for critical items
  • Follow all stages of the requisition lifecycle, from creation to receipt in the requisition system.
  • Ensure that goods and services are delivered between the supplier and the user at the best cost and within the required timelines
  • Ensure that purchasing procedures are followed (quotations, requisition compliance, required approvals, etc.)
  • Work with the finance department to ensure compliance with the 3-way match (requisition, quotation, PO) to ensure timely payments
  • Meet individual and team performance indicator expectations
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with suppliers to ensure optimal responses to our needs
  • Take action in case of quality issues with parts or services provided by suppliers, determine responsibility, instruct finance on payments, and resolve the issue
  • Report all non-conformities to the Assistant Director - Processes and Continuous Improvement. If applicable, handle return requests, obtain credits considering responsibility for related charges, and follow up until the non-conformity is resolved
  • Support projects aimed at continuous improvement of the supply chain
  • Propose ideas to improve processes

Requested skills

  • Skills required

     

    • College diploma in logistics, procurement, or a relevant field (or equivalent experience)
    • At least three (3) years of relevant experience in procurement and logistics
    • Intermediate to advanced level of both spoken and written English (most flight crews and suppliers are English-speaking)
    • Knowledge of procurement operations and logistics processes
    • Competence in supplier evaluation, negotiation, and contract management
    • Strong commitment to compliance with purchasing procedures, regulations, and quality standards
    • Ability to manage emergency situations and make rapid decisions during supply chain disruptions
    • Adaptability to meet specific challenges, such as navigation and supply constraints in the sector
    • Initiative to anticipate future needs and propose innovative solutions in a constantly changing environment
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and closely with various departments
