Haisla Nation Council has a job opening for HCS position:

Kindergarten Teacher (fill in Maternity Leave possibility of continuity)

One Kindergarten teacher is required for the 2020 - 2021 school year to fill a 18 month maternity leave, with the strong possibility of continuity. The successful candidate will be committed to working in a positive team atmosphere to ensure success for all students.

Successful candidate will be working and playing in the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation. Haisla Community School offers modern classrooms with state-of-the-art technology, Haisla Language and Culture program, and a nutrition program. Qualifications:

• commitment to active participation in the school and Nations professional learning community

to ensure student success.

• committed to making collaborative decisions about instructional design and selection of

instructional materials based on data related to student learning including teaching Readwell,

JUMP Math and other foundational programs.

• demonstrated experience and training in differentiated learning, intensive behavioral

management and special learning needs.

• demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in the planning and delivery of the

school's goals

• recent and successful classroom experiences with multi-grade and inter-class organization

• demonstrated effective classroom management skills for maintaining a positive classroom

environment

• proven interpersonal skills and a high degree of professional flexibility, patience and humor

• must be highly motivated and able to work with children in a supportive and consistent manner

• knowledge and understanding of First Nations culture

• willingness to integrate appropriate technologies into your instructional practices in order to

improve learning outcomes is essential

• knowledge of and experience with Mind Up, Friends for Life, and DIBELS is considered an

asset.

• must have or be eligible for BC Teacher Certification

• minimum B.Ed. and BC Certification

Job duties include but are not limited to:

? Consistently complete comprehensive and detailed planning of all curriculum, including daily

lessons, day plans, overviews, units and assessment strategies

? Complete detailed data/observation driven assessment for 2 oral and 3 written reports

? Instructs and supports instruction of identified students, using proven teaching methods

? Takes the lead on I.E.P. development, collaboration and implementation.

? Schedules and coordinates relevant support staff effectively.

? Administers tests to evaluate students’ progress, records results, and issues reports to inform

parents of progress.

? Maintains discipline in instructional setting by applying disciplinary measures when necessary

? Meets with students, parents and School Based Team to discuss student progress and goals.

? Participates in other staff and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher

training workshops.

? Performs related duties, for example sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations,

and counselling student in adjustment and academic problems.

? Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment

? Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, school policies

and regulations

? Participate in extracurricular activities such as DPR, P.E., social activities, sporting activities,

clubs

? Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make

relevant changes to instructional plans and activities

? Perform certain support duties including but not limited to student support, counselling

students with academic problems and providing student encouragement and guidance.

? Participate in Nation, department and school meetings, parent meetings and PLC meetings

? Deals tactfully and respectfully with staff, students, parents and the public, with the BCTF

code of conduct as a benchmark.

? Works closely with a wide range of agencies and programs to build support for each student.

Requirements:

? A valid BC teaching certificate or eligibility for membership in the BC College of Teachers or

eligibility for certification with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch

? Excellent interpersonal skills

? Excellent verbal and written communication skills

? High level of energy, physical fitness and personal health

? High levels of patience and good sense of humor

? Genuinely committed to helping children learn

? Cultural sensitivity, with experience in First Nations schools and communities

? Excellent problem solving skills, negotiation and mediation skills

? Ability to recognize individual learning styles and the characteristics of learners

? High level of attention to confidentiality

? Strong working knowledge of instructional and classroom technology (iPads/Laptops)

? To Follow Haisla Nation Council personnel policy and manual;

? Police Information check and a vulnerable records check is required.
