TEMPORARY BLIND/LOW VISION ITINERANT TEACHER

POSTING OVERVIEW:
This posting shall provide all permanent teachers the opportunity to express their interest in the position of Itinerant Special Education Resource Teacher - Blind Low Vision. This role includes responsibility for supporting classroom teachers in accommodation their programs/instruction materials for students who are visually impaired, providing information/goals to schools to develop IEPs related to the Expanded Core Curriculum for students with visual impairment, teaching students with visual impairment to use assistive technology, and collaborating with outside agencies to support and enhance student independence and success.
Please be advised that the above-noted assignment is system deployed, and locations are subject to change and assigned at the discretion of the Superintendent of Special Education Services.
Transfer requests as outlined in Article XV of the current collective agreement are applicable to system deployed positions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Special Education Part 1 (minimum)
- Additional Qualifications in Teaching Students who are Blind Part 1 with the expectation that Specialist qualifications will be obtained, and/or master's degree in the education of students with a visual impairment
- Ability to produce curriculum materials in uncontracted and/or contracted braille, as required
- Demonstrated successful classroom teaching experience
- Successful teaching experience when dealing with students with exceptionalities
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Demonstrated skill in consultation with teachers and administrators.
- Strong interpersonal skills when dealing with parents and professionals
- Strong organizational and record keeping skills
- Knowledge of the Halton Catholic District School Board IEP and IPRC processes
