Job Description

Join our Communications and Public Affairs team and gain hands-on experience. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a variety of projects that enhance our internal and external communications. Halton Healthcare is a healthcare organization comprised of three community hospitals: Georgetown Hospital, Milton District Hospital and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Together these hospitals, along with their community locations, provide healthcare services to nearly 400,000 residents in the communities of Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. Halton Healthcare hospitals have been recognized for their best practices in a number of patient safety and patient care initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of communication campaigns and events, both internal and external.
  • Conduct research on healthcare trends, patient stories, and community health topics to inform communication efforts.
  • Contribute to the development of web content, including videos and written materials.
  • Draft a variety of communications materials, such as news releases, newsletters and fact sheets.
  • Monitor media coverage and compile media reports.
  • Support the management of media relations, including drafting media pitches and coordinating interviews.
  • Attend team meetings and actively participate in team activities.
  • Assist with special projects as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide general administrative support to the communications team as needed.

Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program related to Journalism, Corporate Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Media Studies, Marketing (internship is a mandatory component).
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, written and digital communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Creative mindset with a knack for storytelling.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Detail-orientated, technologically savvy and a team player.
  • Demonstrated strong media judgment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Town of Oakville, Town of Milon, Town of Georgetown and Halton, including events, community groups and media, is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car is required.

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7.5 hour day shifts (hours subject to change based on operational needs of the organization)

Salary: $20.71 per hour
