The Nurse Practitioner is a Registered Nurse with additional educational preparation and experience who possesses and demonstrates the competencies to autonomously diagnose, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals, and perform specific procedures within his/her legislated scope of practice. The NP role is derived from blending clinical diagnostic and therapeutic knowledge, skills and abilities within a nursing framework that emphasizes holism and partnership with individuals and families, as well as communities.
The Nurse Practitioner utilizes a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base and an advanced level of clinical competence in caring for palliative care patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. The NP will be expected to provide a comprehensive health assessment, symptom management, using a broad range of therapeutic modalities, and is responsible for promoting compassionate care of the terminally ill and their family. The NP will also develop and implement a plan of care, provide family counselling and staff support.
- Current registration in the Extended Class (NP-Adult) with the College of Nurses of Ontario required.
- Completion of a Master Degree in Nursing required.
- Minimum of 3 years nursing experience in palliative care required.
- Exceptional knowledge in palliative care and pain & symptom management.
- Formal training and education in Palliative Care required with minimum of LEAP Course completion
- Experience and expertise in areas of palliative and end of life care, pain and symptom management, supporting individuals with complex medical needs and working with diverse communities and agencies is an asset
- Eligibility for cross-appointment to an academic institution preferred.
- Membership in specialty related organizations e.g. NPAO, RNAO.
- Innovative, creative and professional role model.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize/organize multiple demands.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio required.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
Hours: Monday to Friday, various rotating 7.5 hour day shifts (hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)
Salary: $58.80 per hour - $72.01 per hour
