Job Description

The successful incumbent will work under the direction of physicians and in collaboration with other members of the health care team; provide care to clients with orthopaedic problems through the application, adjustment and removal of a variety of casts, splints and traction fittings; perform casting services primarily in the Fracture Clinic setting; dressing removal, removal sutures, staples and pins related to external fixation; cast application (including specialized casts, fracture braces using plaster or synthetic materials; measures and fit patients for othopaedic devices and ambulatory aids; instruction of patients regarding care and proper use of appliances; assist in the application, maintenance and adjustment of traction including patient education; fabricate and apply splints and bandages; instruction of Patient/family in the care of the cast, slab or brace; order and maintain equipment and orthopaedic supplies; collaborate with other health care professionals such as physicians, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists as required; interact with other departments to obtain the resources needed to assist in patient care.

Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Graduate from a recognized Orthopaedic Technologist Programme sanctioned by the C.S.O.T or equivalent training and experience.
  • Basic understanding of anatomy
  • Ability to apply and remove all types of casts, splints and orthopaedic devices
  • Understanding of theory and application skin and skeletal traction
  • Understanding of the proper application of aseptic technique in dressing change, pin and suture removal, setting up of surgical fields
  • Previous experience in Meditech Expanse preferably with Client Server platform, Order Entry and Electronic Medical Record applications
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record

Additional Information

Hours: Monday to Friday - Various rotating 7.5 hours shifts between 0700-1700 (hours subject to change based on operational needs)

Salary: $33.937 to $39.082 per hour
