The Orthoptist within the Ophthalmology clinic, will provide precise strabismus evaluation and oversee therapy of certain conditions including both paediatric and adult strabismus. Using specialist skills, will assist in diagnosing problems and help to determine appropriate management to help improve the patients' vision. The Orthoptist works with the clinic team, Physician and referring Ophthalmologist and may act as a liaison with the patient/family in developing a successful treatment plan.
- An undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree from a University or equivalent
- Certification from a recognized institution in Orthoptics (Canadian Ophthalmological Society/Canadian Orthoptic Council)
- Minimum 2 years experience working as an Orthoptist including screening, evaluation and treatment of disorders of VA and eye muscle disorders in children and adults
- Competency with work-up including not limited to visual acuities, stereopsis, IOP checks, checking pupils and lensometry
- Knowledge and experience in evaluating disorders affecting visual function
- Proficient in statements of possible modes of non-surgical treatment including occlusion therapy, prism recommendation and application, orthoptic exercises and knowledge of refraction
- Demonstrated teaching skills required to provide patient education and care direction
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and hospital based operating system
- Knowledge of medical terminology as required
- Knowledge and skill in office procedures and equipment use related to ophthalmology
- Demonstrated effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills within an interdisciplinary team environment
- Effective problem solving abilities
- Promotion of a safe work environment and adherence to regulated safety activities

Hours: Monday to Friday, days,0800-1600 (hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)
Salary: $36.53 - $45.69 per hour
