Description
The Pediatric Medicine Clinics at McMaster Children's Hospital provides outpatient care to over 100,000 children and youth with complex mental health issues. The Clinical Psychologist assesses, plans, monitors and evaluates client goal achievement through both individual and group interventions. In particular, the Psychologist combines education and related clinical experience to offer psychological assessments (e.g., psychometric, diagnostic), treatment planning and implementation, and consultation to staff on psychology-related issues. The Psychologist is a leader in program development, quality assurance, and research initiatives.
- Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university, with a preference given to those with an emphasis in child psychology.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario; must be authorized to work with children and adolescents (those with authorization to also work with families preferred).
- Extensive knowledge and current experience in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of internalizing and externalizing disorders and complex co-morbidities in a pediatric mental health population.
- Expertise in a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities (e.g., cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, family based therapy, motivational interviewing techniques and other evidence-based therapies).
- A minimum of three years of recent, relevant experience in a mental health setting, preferably serving an outpatient pediatric population.
- Advanced skills in the development and documentation of specific interventions, conducting research (including methodological design, data management, statistics), and evaluating service outcomes for children and adolescents with complex co-morbidities.
- Experience working with a pediatric population supporting the attainment of exercise and nutrition goals is preferred.
- Demonstrated competency and experience in the administration and interpretation of psychological testing, particularly those tests relevant to the assessment of cognitive abilities, personality and socio-emotional functioning.
- Demonstrated strength in consultation, teaching, interprofessional collaboration, and the supervision of advanced learners.
- Experience with individual, group and family therapy in mental health pediatric populations.
- Eligible for part-time appointment with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, and flexibility.
- Willingness to work with and evaluate a growing program.
