Reporting to a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), the HR Associate provides HR support to the Leaders within their assigned portfolio, up to and including the Director level. Together with the HRBP, the HR Associate is responsible for the effective service delivery within their assigned portfolio, acting as a trusted advisor to leaders on HR issues and initiatives, supporting the execution of the business operations while aligning with the strategic corporate plan.

This is a key service delivery role for an HR professional with a generalist background with demonstrated success in supporting internal clients with a wide range of HR service. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Together with the HRBP, provide consultative support to leaders within an assigned client group while ensuring alignment with Hospital policies and procedures, legislation, collective agreements and the Corporate Mission, Vision and Values, while minimizing risk and financial liability to the organization;
  • Provide advice and support to leaders regarding employee performance and attendance management;
  • Provide advice and support to leaders related to recruitment and staffing initiatives;
  • Provide advice, support and guidance on accommodation and return to work matters by partnering with leaders, Health, Safety and Wellness, and unions to facilitate the return to work;
  • Investigate grievances, preparing leaders for grievance hearings, facilitating conversations and negotiating resolutions;
  • Support and advise leaders through the job development and evaluation process, supporting with the drafting of job summaries for review by the HRBP;
  • Support leaders with workplace investigations such as code of conduct and performance.

Qualifications
  1. Undergraduate degree in HR or related field.
  2. Post-graduate Diploma or Certificate in Human Resources Management.
  3. Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and/or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) an asset.
  4. 5 years of generalist experience in HR, preferably in a unionized and/or hospital environment
  5. Sound knowledge of employment law including Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Labour Relations Act, and the proven ability to provide advice to clients on the application
  6. Experience in consulting and advising leaders on organizational development initiatives, talent management, employee/labour relations and change management
  7. Proven ability to interface effectively with  organization leaders.
  8. Excellent research and analytical capabilities
  9. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to make recommendations to leadership, and influence decision based on thorough analysis.
  10. Detail oriented with the ability to handle competing priorities
  11. Able to remain flexible and adaptable in a complex and changing work environment
  12. Demonstrated problem-solving, conflict resolution, negotiation, and decision making skills
  13. Tact, diplomacy, mature judgement and ability to take action and display initiative
