academic hospitals.

The Research Development and Innovation Specialist is responsible for building strategic partnerships with both internal
and external stakeholders to expand research and innovation capacity at HHS, leading commercialization activities from
high-potential internal HHS research and technology transfer opportunities, and identifying new pipelines to innovation
that are critical to the mission of supporting HHS’ Research and Innovation strategy.  Reporting to the Manager of Research Development, Innovation and Partnerships, the Research Development and Innovation Specialist brings strategic operational and programmatic leadership, driving direction and oversight of interdisciplinary initiatives to ensure the growth of the Research and Innovation mandate at HHS, particularly in strengthening our Hospital to Home portfolio through technology adoption. This role requires a thorough knowledge of business fundamentals and demonstrated knowledge and experience in market research and building external partnerships. The incumbent will bring programmatic leadership to oversee both government and privately funded collaboration projects. Responsibilities
include the programmatic oversight of the programs and the sub-projects, and ability to lead project teams through
challenges, risks and hurdles and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to fulfil all financial and progress
reporting obligations in a timely and accurate manner. The expectation will be to provide leadership and guidance to
project teams during all stages of the project lifecycle (initiation through closeout), acting as the lead liaison between the
industry partner, funder and internal stakeholders.


Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Science, or other academic preparation in combination with relevant
work experience; Master’s in Business Administration preferred.
2. Minimum 3 years’ experience in research business development and/or project management either within a healthcare or academic institution preferred; or minimum 5 years of relevant experience within industry, government/non-profit organizations.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in market research and external funding opportunities with strong attention to
detail – excellent organizational skills.
4. Demonstrate ability to foster relationships with partners including researchers, industry stakeholders and external
funding agencies to help translate discoveries into profitable business ventures.
5. Manage complex programs and projects, and continuously optimize the performance of strategic partnerships
6. Knowledge of HHSC organizational structure and research portfolio.
7. Knowledge and familiarity with research funding programs within industry, government agencies, and non-profit
organizations.
8. Evident relationships with researchers, research administrators/coordinators within a hospital or academic research institute.
9. Application of good judgment and analytical skills.
10. Excellent research, analytical, negotiation, relationship building and project management competencies.
11. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – effective presentation and writing skills.
12. Demonstrated ability to motivate self and others, set priorities and work independently yet within a collaborative
framework.
13. Proficient in all Windows computer applications.
