Senior Advisor, Research Grants

We are seeking a Research Planning & Analysis (P&A) Grants Specialist to play a pivotal role in advising, securing and managing research funding for the HHS research community. This position combines expertise in grant management with broader oversight of research projects, ensuring efficient financial planning, strategic direction, and compliance. Key responsibilities include:
- Grant Identification & Advisory: Identifying and promoting research funding opportunities from government agencies and philanthropic organizations, providing expert guidance to research teams in grant proposal preparation, and assisting with budget development.
- Grant Management & Compliance: Overseeing the management of grant-funded research projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory and institutional policies, and managing financial tracking, reporting, and contract negotiations.
- Research Oversight & Strategic Planning: Supporting both grant-funded and non-grant-funded research projects, collaborating with research and administrative teams to ensure projects are aligned with strategic goals and maintain effective financial planning.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Working closely with stakeholders across the organization to secure funding, foster innovation, and advance research initiatives, while ensuring consistent monitoring and support for all types of research projects.

This role is designed for professionals with experience in grants management, financial oversight, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to manage a diverse range of research activities.


Qualifications

The Sr. Advisor role requires the following:
• Education – at least one of the following:
o Professional designation (i.e. CPA, CFA) – enrolment or completion of
o Applicable post-graduate degree (i.e. MBA, Masters of Finance) – enrolment or completion of
o OR the equivalent to the above (i.e. work experience)
• Work Experience – 5+ years of relevant work experience
• Proven experience managing grants from government agencies and philanthropic organizations, including creating and managing budgets, preparing reports, and ensuring financial compliance with regulatory and institutional policies for research funding.
• Specialized Skills – 5+ years of experience in each of the following:
o Financial modeling
o Financial graphical and visualization
o Financial and Operating Systems
• Soft Skill Experience – 5+ years of experience in each of the following:
o Analytical and Problem Solving Skills
o Communication Skills – both formal (i.e. presentations, board reports, executive overviews/narratives) and informal
o Interpersonal Skills
o Collaboration/Team Work
• Informal leadership, coaching and leaderships
