Speech Language Pathologist

As a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, the Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation, intervention, consultation, education and prevention to an adult population presenting communication and swallowing disabilities as a result of impairments in language, cognitive-communication abilities, articulation , voice , fluency and/or oropharyngeal dysfunction secondary to stroke. Supervision and teaching of Communicative Disorders Assistants is an integral part of the position. Service delivery consists of a combination of consultative and direct treatment. The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide service on either 7South or B2North. This position will also provide care to the occasional amputee and spinal cord patient on B2South.


Qualifications

1. Registered with CASLPO or eligible for registration
2. Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology
3. Current knowledge base and experience in the assessment and treatment of adults with neurogenic communication and swallowing disorders
4. Previous experience working with a stroke population within a rehabilitation setting preferred
5. Experience with video-fluoroscopy swallowing studies an asset/preferred
6. Skills and experience in the areas of augmentative and alternative communication preferred, or a willingness to actively develop these skills
