GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Communications Consultant is accountable for providing leadership and innovative communications services for the Agency. This position is also responsible for development and ongoing management of the Agency’s external website. The Communications Consultant may be expected to act in the absence of the Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Journalism/Communications or related field; or a Certificate in Public Relations; or equivalent from a recognized university/college.
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • IABC Accredited Business Communicator or (Strategic) Communications Management Professional (SCMP/CMP), or CPRS Accredited Public Relations (APR) professional designation, would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with and updating websites and Content Management Systems (CMS)

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of communication techniques, methods, standards, mediums, equipment and software.
  • Professional writing and presentation skills
  • Must possess a high degree of confidentiality, discretion and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as a contributing member of a team to ensure goals and objectives are met.
  • Ability to identify and frame key issues and messages by gathering, analyzing and integrating conflicting and sometimes incomplete information from numerous sources.
  • Ability to create written, verbal and visual communication materials using a variety of hardware and software applications such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint and Illustrator.
  • Proficiency in photography and videography, as well as audio and video editing, would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive care for First Nations and Métis people.
