Job Description: As a member of Mental Health and Addiction Services, the Community Mental Health Nurse is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team providing intensive case management to individuals with chronic and persistent mental illness. These services are provided within an individual and group context. Responsibilities include intensive case management, medication management, crisis intervention, counselling, goal planning, consultation to community agencies, group/community education, student mentoring, documentation, client/family and public education, advocacy, and mental health promotion.

Experience
- 3 years' experience in a community or acute mental health setting
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
Other Education and Training
- Nursing diploma is acceptable
- Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)

- Advanced - Demonstrates word processing skills using Microsoft Office programs
Knowledge and Abilities
- Ability to treat patients with compassion and empathy
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act
- Knowledge in Provincial Addiction Clinical Model and DSM-4R
- Knowledge in mental health and addictions and concurrent medical conditions
- Knowledge in methadone/methadone assisted recovery
- Knowledge in drugs of abuse and their effects
- Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
- Demonstrated high degree of accuracy is required of assigned responsibility
- Knowledge in Mental Health nursing processes and appropriate interventions
- Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing/Assessment
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge of drug abuse and their effects during use and withdrawal
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge in harm reduction in Addictions Medicine
- Knowledge Transtheoretical Model of Change
