Job Summary

Under the direction of the Provincial MAID Program Manager, the Program Nurse Educator (PNE) provides professional leadership in the development and delivery of education for MAID for the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The position requires collaborative, respectful and professional provincial engagement offering mentoring, consultation, education, training and advocacy for those who chose MAID as an end of life choice. The position requires a high-level understanding of MAID in Canada. The Program Nurse Educator will promote the Mission, Vision and Values of the Saskatchewan Health Authority as it relates to the Medical Assistance in Dying in Saskatchewan for a defined group of health care providers and groups.

Education

  • Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • Education/course on adult learning preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 1-year previous direct work experience with Medical Assistance in Dying legislation
  • Work experience with clinical documentation standards and form creation is preferred
  • Work experience as clinical nurse educator is preferred
  • Minimum 1-year nursing experience in community and/or palliative care

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the legislation, guidelines, policies, practice/work standards that guide practice for clinicians providing services to patients and families including awareness of its potential to facilitate and constrain clinical scope of practice
  • Ability to travel both within the region and provincially
  • Knowledge and skill reflective of the Health Services model of care and principles of adult learning
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness and judgment to collaboratively plan, implement, and evaluate program development activities such as quality improvement projects
  • Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal/consultative relationships and communication patterns including conflict resolution in order to work effectively
  • Development and delivery of training and education both internally to the team and externally across Saskatchewan. Proficient technical/computer skills for database management, clinical charting, PowerPoint presentations and virtual meetings

Other Information

  • Intermediate to proficient computer skills in Adobe Pro, SharePoint, and Microsoft programs
  • Must have access to a vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license
