Job Description:
The Public Health Nurse directly delivers public health nursing service to individuals, families and communities in an assigned geographic area within the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The Public Health Nurse carries out public health nursing activities under the supervision of the Public Health Nursing Supervisor. This employee works relatively independently and is expected to make primary decisions based on sound assessments according to accepted policies and procedures of the nursing program and the SHA (f/Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region), and SRNA Standards of practices. This employee will facilitate in identifying needs of individuals, families, groups or communities and will assist in the development of programs/services, carry out immunization, assess client needs, make home visits, counsel and provide health promotion services. This employee liaises with, and refers to, other health personnel and agencies, as well as works closely with community groups.
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year Public Health Nursing experience is an asset.
Education
- Baccalaureate Degree in nursing with course credits in Public Health Nursing is required.
- Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
- BCLS certification is required
Other Education and Training
- Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS)
Knowledge and Abilities
- Must understand levels of prevention and how these are used in promotion, prevention and protection of health.
Other Information
- Scheduled hours of work may be reduced (if applicable) during the rotation stipulated when a statutory holiday is recognized during that period.
- This is a community based position providing services in clinic and home settings. Travel required to various community sites, including rural, within the Primary Health Care Networks (Regina). Home base for this position is: 1504 Albert Street.
- Travel allowance is provided.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have a vehicle available for work.
