Job Description: The Nurse Practitioner RN(NP) is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge and skills gained through additional education and experience. The Nurse Practitioner blends an in-depth knowledge of nursing with the legal authority and autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals and perform specific procedures in the management and treatment of common acute illnesses and stable chronic conditions. The RN(NP) practices within a framework of evidence-based primary care, holism, health promotion, and disease and injury prevention. The practice involves building partnerships with individuals, families, and communities. This includes community needs assessments; supporting inter-professional collaboration; and participating in continuous improvements through evaluative processes/projects.

Experience

  • Two (2) years advanced RN (NP) in applicable area
  • Three (3) years nursing experience
  • Two years experience as a RN(NP) for assessment and treatment of older adults 

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Licenses

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Other Education and Training

  • CNA certificate in clinical practice area is an asset
  • Gerontology certificate is acceptable

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Knowledge in conflict resolution techniques
  • Knowledge in research processes and program evaluation
  • Knowledge in clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment
  • Knowledge in communication strategy, methods and tools
  • Knowledge in leadership strategies
  • Demonstrates the ability to be resourceful and to adapt to changing conditions

Other Information

  • Registered/eligible for registration with the CRNS as RN (NP)
  • Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
  • One year nursing experience in a primary health or community setting preferred
