Job Description: This position works as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.  Under the direction of the Team Lead of the Family Medicine Unit, the Nurse Practitioner RN(NP) will provide primary health care services to the community. The Nurse Practitioner RN(NP) will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for clients in the community both independently and collaboratively with a physician, depending upon the complexity of client needs.  This includes: health promotion and protection; first line treatment and emergency services; provision of supportive counselling and instruction in management of medical conditions; disease and injury prevention; initiating and conducting community needs assessments and participating in evaluative projects; and collaboration with and referral to other health care professionals.  The incumbent is required to work at a high level of independent clinical practice

Experience
 
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse in primary care, public health or acute care. 
  • Requires a minimum of one (1) year recent full time experience working in an advanced RN(NP) role including community needs assessment, community development and health promotion. 
  • Previous experience working within a community setting with Aboriginal clients would be an asset

Education

  • Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner (MN-NP)
  • Graduate from an approved School of Nursing.  Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is desired
  • Certification in Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or equivalent program is required

  • Strong assessment and counseling skills
  • Ability to apply methods and principles of nursing process
  • Advance computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Access)

Other Education & Training:

  • Registered/eligible for registration with the CRNS as an RN (NP) or RN (GNP)
