Job Description

Provide clinical and forensic psychological services including assessment and treatment, consultation on behalf of identified clients to community agencies and professionals.  Also provide community and professional education for a target population of young offenders including youth who have committed sexual offenses and who are serving custody and community dispositions in the Saskatchewan Health Region.

Education

  • Masters degree in Psychology or Educational Psychology
  • Registration with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists, with Authorized Practice Endorsement

Experience

  • Post Masters degree experience in a mental health/forensic setting working with adolescents who have committed sexual offenses

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of normal child and adolescent development, psychopathology, criminogenic factors, family systems and how these influence youth offending
  • Knowledge of issues and interventions for youth with substance abuse and mental health/disruptive behavior disorders
  • Ability to work with aboriginal youth and families in a manner which is sensitive to their culture and traditions.
  • Knowledge of models for therapeutic intervention strategies for children, youth and families which are based on best practice or research literature
  • Supervised experience with standardized psychometric assessment instruments and personality assessments used with adolescents.
  • Knowledge and experience in the assessment and treatment of youth who have committed sexual offenses, including knowledge of factors used to assess risk to reoffend.
  • Demonstrated skill in developing appropriate case plans and intervention strategies for clients.
  • Demonstrate ability to engage in community program consultation and resource development.
  • Experience in designing and providing in-service training to other professionals and in  providing public education to clients or non-professional audiences.
  • Skills in program planning, consultation and evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health, Family Services, Young Offender/Youth Criminal Justice Act, and Education legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary mental health team.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the demands of a busy high pressure clinical caseload and workload, including court imposed deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, professional maturity and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to travel
