Job Description:
The Quality Assurance coordinator provides supervision for all quality activities provided by the SHA Organ and Tissue Donation Program. This includes, but not limited to donor identification, screening, retrieval, storage, processing and distribution and ensuring regulatory compliance with Health Canada Regulations (HCR) Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) Standards, Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Standards. The Quality Assurance coordinator will be responsible for providing fundamental improvements to evidence based clinical practices and activities thereby enhancing overall quality performance. The position is also responsible for staff education, clinical skills development training and evaluation for SHA Donation program staff. The Quality Assurance coordinator shall be part of each quality review. The QA is a designated individual who is familiar with but has not performed the specific work being reviewed.

Experience
- Experience with product/tissue/organ recall and discordant test results
- 2 years minimum experience in a critical care environment
- Experience in maintenance & implementation of SOPs for transplantation safety
- Experience in the identification and reporting of errors & adverse reactions
- 1-2 years experience working with coroners, police depts, morgue personnel, etc
- 1-2 years experience in donor screening and obtaining consent
- 1-2 years exp coordinating retrieval processes for other procurement agencies
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
Other Education and Training
- Certified Eye Bank Technician (CBET) through EBAA is preferred
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge in regulations & standards for the safety of cells, tissues, & organs
- Ability to perform and ensure accurate documentation of all steps of donation
- Knowledgeable and competent in aseptic technique
- Ability to assess donor suitability per EBAA, CSA Standards and HCR.
- High regard for confidentiality and advocacy for tissue and organ donation
