Reporting to the Provincial Manager of Research Support in the SCA’s Research Support Unit (RSU), the Research Consultant is responsible for carrying out the research administration functions of the RSU, increasing overall research success and research productivity among SCA staff and physicians, contributing to the Agency’s participation in provincial and national research initiatives, and providing strategic and operational support to the department. The RSU supports the facilitation and coordination of resourcing for all research types across the Agency, including academically-driven research, health systems research, and program evaluation activities.

The Research Consultant is a subject matter expert responsible for the review of research-related inquiries and approval requests to support the relevant review and approval processes. The position directly provides for the evaluation of research project needs, the provision of support and content expertise, and the facilitation of projects throughout the entire research life cycle. The Research Consultant is a highly specialized individual with extensive training in research and plays a critical role in ensuring the SCA achieves its strategic vision for research: to foster research across the continuum of cancer care that addresses the unique and diverse needs of our population and generates innovative and implementable solutions that improve cancer outcomes and strengthen the delivery of cancer services across Saskatchewan.

The position involves regular project work requiring a high degree of independence, creativity, use of technological applications, and personal initiative. The position serves as a change agent, influences the success of the RSU, and works collaboratively with all leaders, physicians, and staff within the Agency, as well as with other health system partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s Degree in a health science-related discipline. 
  • Certificate in Research Administration is an asset. 
  • 3-5 years of experience in a position with mixed methods health services or clinical research, program evaluation research, research project management, data analysis, research support, implementation science, or research administration functions.

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of healthcare system in Saskatchewan
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal research funding agencies and programs, and their guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in compliance and risk management connected to research projects, grants, and awards.
  • Knowledge of Canadian research funding environment and experience in research budget development, monitoring, and reporting. 
  • Experience with research contract administration, including evaluating and implementing research-related agreements.
  • Understanding of a range of research and evaluation methodologies and methods.
  • Familiarity with Research Ethics processes. 
  • Knowledge of research and program evaluation methodology, as well as statistical analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a consultative and collaborative fashion with a variety of key stakeholders. 
  • Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and manage numerous processes, people and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency working in a computer-based environment using Windows, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, and statistical analysis tools.
  • Superior organizational skills.
